In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review is taking place in Bangkok from November 19 to 21, 2024.
The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, adopted in 2015 by 189 countries, serves as a global framework for promoting the human rights of women and girls.
Heading Australia’s delegation to the Beijing+30 Regional Review meeting is Ms. Padma Raman PSM, Executive Director of the Office for Women, who represents Senator the Hon. Katy Gallagher, Minister for Women. The delegation also includes:
- Ms. Stephanie Copus Campbell, Australia’s Ambassador for Gender Equality
- Dr. Anna Cody, Australia’s Sex Discrimination Commissioner
- Ms. Joslyn Eades-Tass, National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Alliance
- Ms. Clare Gibellini, Women with Disabilities Australia
Convened by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and UN Women’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the Beijing+30 Regional Review meeting gathers nations from the Asia-Pacific region, along with civil society organizations and other stakeholders, to assess progress in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
In 2024, nation-states, including Australia, submitted their national reviews of actions taken to advance gender equality to UNESCAP. Australia's National Report on the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, submitted on July 18, 2024, is available for review (PDF 1.6 MB).
While considerable progress has been made in advancing women's rights and gender equality, no country has fully achieved the objectives set by the Beijing agenda. The Beijing+30 Regional Review meeting offers an invaluable opportunity for nations across the region to enhance cooperation toward a safer, more inclusive, and equitable future for all women and girls, benefiting society as a whole.
